Emission Twin and GoClimate digitalize climate data for the forest technology industry

Skogstekniska klustret (the Forest Technology Cluster) is launching a pilot project that will use AI and digital twins to reduce manual work and give member companies a clearer picture of their emissions. The assignment goes to Emission Twin in collaboration with GoClimate.

Many industrial companies still have climate data spread across multiple systems and formats, making sustainability work both time-consuming and difficult to quality-assure. For companies with large product ranges, manual emissions calculations at product level are often practically impossible. At the same time, sustainability requirements from customers, investors, and regulators are tightening.

In one part of the pilot project for Skogstekniska klustret, GoClimate’s AI is connected directly to companies’ finance and business systems to automatically calculate emissions at company level. The data is then fed into Emission Twin’s digital twin — a model that provides transparency in the calculations and makes it possible to work with emissions reductions.

“Our product automates large parts of the work with climate data. Together with Emission Twin’s system, companies get a complete solution that allows them to work further with this data to see how they can actually reduce their emissions,” says Kalle Nilvér, CEO of GoClimate.

A key part of the project is creating a platform that makes it possible to map emissions at product level at scale. By having each actor in the value chain contribute data at the source, a shared, up-to-date model is built that simplifies reporting and provides better decision-making support.

“Many companies want to calculate emissions per product, but current methods don’t hold up when you have thousands of articles. When it can’t be scaled, it becomes a barrier in the climate transition — and a technical shift is needed to turn product data into a living basis for real emissions reductions,” says Tove Nilstun, founder of Emission Twin.

The pilot project will also develop an initial foundation for future digital product passports, which is becoming increasingly important as EU requirements for traceability and transparency grow.

“With this project, we are taking an important step toward automating and quality-assuring climate data. The solution from Emission Twin and GoClimate demonstrates a level of innovation that could change how the entire industry works with climate reporting,” says Joel Powell, project manager at Skogstekniska klustret.

Four member companies are participating initially, with the goal of rolling out the solution more broadly within the cluster. For Emission Twin and GoClimate, the project marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration with the ambition to apply the technology across additional industries.

The pilot project is carried out within the framework of the projects Innovationspiloter för omställning and Digital Innovation In the Forest Value Chain (DIIF).
